Being Me

Adulthood

we used to be curious
more confident at taking risks
didn't care what anyone thought of us
explored our many options

we were unapologetically us
we sparkled
whistled
danced
sang
drew
painted
failed
yet we were still us

and then we became adults
our spark deemed
afraid of life
we became timid
scared of taking risks
forgot all we enjoyed
lost ourselves along the way

pause
stop chasing the wind
take a breather

quit
find you
go back to those childhood dreams
the little things that made
the invisible stars
in your eyes sparkle

worry not about tomorrow
let tomorrow sort itself
live behind the sorrow
be present with today
slow down
and live.
